Your Problem is Sin

The root of man’s problem is Sin – essentially disobeying God’s commands
For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) Even as through one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed on all men inasmuch as all sinned (Romans 5:12)

Sin is Essentially Selfishness

Sin is essentially doing my own thing – being self-centred, when in fact I was created to live in relationship and harmony with God and with other people.

Whilst we may think there is nothing wrong with living my own life according to my own values and for my own benefit, in fact the condition of the world in which we live is a direct consequence of men and women living in exactly that way – there is no one else to blame.

Whether we look at the gross inequalities in the world, gratuitous violence, perversions of every kind, greed seen in business or corruption in politics, broken homes and dysfunctional families – they all have their roots in our behaviour, values and attitudes, which includes you and me.

There is a Better Way

Our lifestyles stand in sharp contrast to the standard Jesus gave us, which is to love God with every fibre of our being and to love others as we love ourselves. Another way of expressing a similar set of values is, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". That is a golden rule found in many religions and philosophies so none of us can complain it is too difficult to understand.

God calls on each of us individually to change, unconditionally and unilaterally. It doesn't matter whether or not others change or if my circumstances change. God calls on me to abandon sinful attitudes and behaviour even in my present circumstances.
